TRAINING DIRECTOR
William Hendrix has had an affinity for dogs ever since he was young. He thought about working with dogs as a profession and began his internship at Tecla’s K-9 Academy in March 2015. Since then his love for dogs has only grown.
William was hired by TK9 following the completion of his internship and has been working in the capacity as a trainer for over 4 years.
William has over 6,000 training hours under his belt at TK9. He grew up in San Antonio Texas, moved to Maryland because his dad was in the military, and holds an Associates's Degree in General Studies at Carroll Community College.
MANAGER
Kelly Bruce is a lifelong animal lover. She has rescued dogs and cats all her life, to the delight - and sometimes dismay!- of her family.
After spending many years as an office manager in a dental office, Kelly has pursued her dream to work full time with animals. Her professionalism and team building skills, combined with her gentle, experienced care of furry friends, makes her an excellent addition to TK-9. Kelly is also a proud mom to a son and loves to volunteer with horses in her spare time.
AGILITY INSTRUCTOR
Cathy Ferguson has been training dogs with their owners for the past 10+ years as the agility instructor at TK-9. She loves seeing the level of communication and teamwork develop between the owner and the dog as they learn what it takes to run a successful agility course.
Cathy grew up with dogs and has always enjoyed teaching rescue dogs the basic skills of sits and downs. It was in 2009 that she adopted a dog for whom the rescue organization required formal training. She went to Tecla Walton and soon found herself and her dog in Rally classes. They competed in Rally and earned their Arch, Arch X, Arch EX and finally their Arch MX. She started her other dog in Agility and quickly became an agility instructor.
Cathy recently retired from the Howard County School System, which has allowed her to expand her teaching role at TK-9. She currently teaches Puppy, Manners, and Obedience classes in addition to the agility classes. She has become an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and will be teaching classes and giving exams for the Canine Good Citizen program.
Cathy believes a good relationship between the owner and their dog is one based on trust, mutual respect, and love. She gives the owner the knowledge and tools on how dogs learn and how to create an environment which brings out the best relationship between dog and owner.
GROOMER
Hey, my name is Chris, I have been a pet stylist for about 8 years. I spent 3 working as a medical groomer for White-Marsh Animal Hospital. I am a humanity over vanity groomer and will always put the safety and well-being of your fur baby first. I love to do creative grooming as well as nice fluffy clips on dogs and cats alike. I’m excited to meet all your fur babies and get them cleaned up and looking dapper!
