Behavior Modification

What is Behavior Modification?

Behavior Modification is the means to resolving behavioral issues in dogs through training programs that address the underlying reasons for the problem behaviors. This is done by identifying, analyzing and appropriately reconditioning the dog’s outward physical signs which indicate the dog’s internal physiological and psychological state. Tecla’s K-9 Academy provides behavior modification for many unwanted behaviors including jumping, fear aggression, resource guarding, housebreaking, chewing, and separation anxiety. Tecla’s K-9 Academy offers the following options for behavior modification work.

Private Behavior Modification Sessions

What Can I Expect From Private Behavior Modification Sessions?

Tecla’s K-9 Academy founder and expert trainer Tecla Walton will meet with owner and dog, evaluate the behavior(s) that the dog is exhibiting as well as the relationship between the owner and dog. She will then implement the appropriate plan, guiding owner and dog every step of the way. It is Teclaʼs belief that for behavior modification to be successful there must be a balance between the behavioral work (i.e. counter conditioning, counter aggression training, desensitization), obedience work, and a harmonious owner/dog relationship. Thus your dogʼs behavioral concerns will be approached from all three aspects.

Pack to Basics Style Socialization Classes

What is Pack to Basics?

Pack to Basics is an innovative socialization process developed by Chad Mackin, where dogs learn to act appropriately in each otherʼs presence as well as the presence of people. The program defines aggression, addresses the effects of layered stress on aggression, includes components of counter-conditioning and desensitization, and recognizes the importance of obedience. As the dogs experience that they can exist in the company of other dogs and strangers, and that there are safe boundaries for all, their confidence improves and they learn proper stress coping mechanisms. This socialization class is often paired with our behavior modification class.
