The Importance of Proper Socialization in Canine Development

As a canine training and behavior specialist, one of the most difficult and important subjects that I deal with is aggression in canines.  Experience has shown me time and time again that a key factor in dealing with or avoiding aggression is proper socialization.  Suzanne Clothier states:

“If you want to learn how to stop aggressive dog behavior towards strangers, then you must understand that socializing you dog is the most important, first step of aggressive dog training”  and “Off leash socialization through early adulthood is the best prevention for aggression problems”.

Tecla’s K-9 Academy at ICE Rally Show, Westminster, MD

Tecla's K-9 Academy, rally classes, dog training in Ellicott CityTecla’s K-9 Academy Rally Team showed beautifully at Intelligent Canine Endeavors (ICE) Rally competition in Westminster, MD this past weekend!

Saturday honors go to the following handler/dog teams:

Bruce and Sasha: 1B 2nd place with a score of 207, 1B 194, 2A 3rd place with a score of 201, 2A earned Rally Level 2 Title with a score of 200, 3A 1st place with a score of 194

Rebecca and Storm: 1st time trialing level 1A 2nd place with a score of 206

Kelsey and Ruby: 1st time trialing – level 1A 4th place with a score of 197

Candace and Shasta: level 1B 2nd place, level 2A 4th place, level 2A 2nd place (after a run off on a 1st place tie)with a score of 203, also earning her Rally Level 2 Title

Doggy Days of Summer Course Offerings at Tecla’s K-9 Academy

We have set the days and times for new Tecla’s K-9 Academy courses and we’re naming it the Doggy Days of Summer, because it’s that time of year when it’s great to have them playing and out with you wherever you go. That means lots of chances to mingle with other dogs and people.  So if your doggy and you can use some fun, socialization and bonding to keep up that good behavior, check out our new Doggy Days of Summer courses:

Advanced Obedience/Remote Collar/ Tuesdays 8:45pm/ Start Date July 26/ Course Fee $225:
This course builds on our Basic Obedience Class. Emphasis is placed on off-leash control.

Advanced Obedience/Fun and Games/Saturdays 11:30am/Start Date August 6/ Course Fee $225
This course builds on our Basic Obedience Class. Emphasis is place on off-leash control. More biddable, non-aggressive dogs are perfect candidates for this class.

Welcome to the new Tecla’s K-9 Academy website. If you were familiar with our former site, you know that this represents a major step up. We’re excited because we now detailed information about our classes and services, as well as class schedules, so you dog owners can easily see what classes to consider, and when they will be conducted.

Since you’re reading this, you can see we have incorporated a blog as well. We encourage you to check in here regularly, as we will post on a wide range of topics, ideas, events… Everything that is Tecla’s K-9 Academy.
